Transition to Kindergarten

Butler Primary School

To support our families on the commencement of their educational journey, Butler Primary School offers a Transition to Kindergarten program (T2K).

The program is open to children who have completed the enrolment process and are enrolled to commence in Kindergarten at Butler Primary School in the following year.

T2K is designed to ease the transition for young children into the kindergarten environment. Through structured activities and interactions, T2K encourages children to make friends, build confidence and establish social connections. It introduces essential routines that help children understand what to expect in kindy, while introducing the foundational skills necessary for their academic journey. By emphasizing independence, T2K empowers children to take initiative in their learning experiences, setting a positive tone for their future educational endeavours.

The T2K sessions are approximately 2 hours and are held once a week. Each session has a maximum of 10 children, and ONE parent must be in attendance and participating. Younger siblings are unable to attend as it is an important time for the child and parent to participate in shared activities to build the skills, confidence, and routines the child will rely on when they walk into kindergarten for the first time. The shared activities reveal what your child enjoys, what frustrates them, and where they may need support before starting school.

Once you have a place in the program you have committed to attend each week until the end of the school year, Term 4 week 10.

Attendance is compulsory, and if you miss two consecutive sessions without informing the class teacher or school office (extenuating circumstances may apply), your place will be offered to a family on the waiting list.

As we value this program, everything is supported by the school and there is no cost to you.

Mobile Phones are expected to be hidden, put away, not used and even turned off during the session. If a parent wishes to use a mobile phone, other than an emergency, this program is not for you. If photos are going to be part of the program, the school camera and staff members will take photos which parents may access at designated times.

Our community is our future. Everything we do, we want to do correctly as it supports your family and children’s interest and enjoyment in becoming co-operative, lifelong learners.

We want to build a strong and sustainable early years community that includes a Playgroup and a Minister’s endorsed, Transition to Kindergarten (T2K) program.

We welcome you as partners in supporting this journey and building Butler Primary School’s, early years’ community – a strong foundation for future success.
